For Arizona parents of kids 3–6

Help us test Wren.

Wren is a 12-minute learning app for kids 3 to 6. Try the prototype with your child, then tell us what's wrong with it.

  • Free
  • About 15 minutes
  • At home or in person
Made from the prototype. Pip and the families are made up.

Animated film. A cartoon cactus wren named Pip teaches letter sounds, counting and writing on an iPad across a desert day. At 12 minutes the app stops, the sun sets, and a parent's phone shows what the child learned.

How the test works

About 15 minutes on an iPad, tablet or computer, with the sound on.

  1. Your child plays one sessionAbout 12 minutes with Pip: a feelings check-in, letter sounds, counting and tracing a letter. Then Wren stops on its own.
  2. You see what parents seeToday's progress, tonight's off-screen mission and the records you'd keep.
  3. Six quick questionsWould you buy it? What would stop you? Honest answers help most, including no.

What Wren is

An adventure for your child. Peace of mind for you.

For your child: a world to explore

  • An adventure every sessionPip takes your child somewhere new in the desert, from Star Camp to the Story Tree, and every stop is a chance to be someone: an astronaut, a detective, a storyteller.
  • Curiosity that comes homeEvery session ends with a question from Pip to wonder about together, and a small mission to do away from the screen.

For you: peace of mind

  • Safe by designNo chat, no ads, no strangers. Pip only says lines written and checked in advance, and your child's name and voice stay on your device.
  • It stops on its ownSessions last 12 minutes, with a daily limit and quiet hours. When time is up, Wren ends the session for you. No streaks, no rewards for coming back.
  • Getting ready for kindergartenLetter sounds, counting, writing and more, matched to Arizona's Early Learning Standards, in English or Spanish, at your child's pace.
  • You see what they learnedA simple progress view, plus records for your homeschool portfolio.

How Wren teaches

Built on research about how young children learn.

  • Short sessions, a calm pace, then off the screen12 minutes at a slow pace, then a mission away from the screen.
  • Where your child is, then the next right stepTwo playful check-ins find the starting point; then the skills that need practice most.
  • Practice until it sticksMastered means 4 of the last 5 right on the first try, without a hint.
  • Coming back at the right timeQuick reviews 2, 7, 21 and 60 days apart, so skills stay learned.
  • Mistakes are part of learningA hint first, then Pip shows how. Your child is never stuck.
  • Learning together, off the screenEvery session ends with a short mission for you and your child.

The research behind each part

The studies tested these methods, not Wren itself. The page says what we know and what we’re still measuring.

Questions

Is the test free?

Yes. The test costs nothing and we don't ask for a card.

Is this the real app?

It's a working prototype, so a few parts are simulated. That's why we want your honest opinion before we build the real thing.

Does Wren record my child?

No. The test doesn't use the microphone or the camera, and your child's name stays on your device.

Who can take part?

Arizona parents and guardians of children ages 3 to 6. Homeschool, ESA, preschool or none of these: everyone is welcome.

Can my child play in Spanish?

Yes. Pip speaks English and Spanish. The parent screens in the prototype are in English for now.

When can I buy it?

After the tests. We're deciding what to build with parents like you. If you'd like a spot in the paid pilot, you can say so at the end of the test.

Privacy
  • When you sign up we keep your first name, email, phone number if you give one, ZIP code, your child's age, whether you use ESA, how you'd like to test, the language for the session, and which link brought you here.
  • During the test we keep which steps you finished, your answers to six questions, and counts from the session (minutes and answers). Not your child's name, voice or picture.
  • We use it to set up your test and to learn which posts reach Arizona parents. Only the Wren team sees it. We don't sell it or use it for ads.
  • We delete sign-ups and test answers within 12 months, or sooner when you ask: use the link on your confirmation screen, or reply to any email from us.
