The standards behind every Wren skill

Each of Wren’s 225 skills is matched to codes from five frameworks: the Arizona Early Learning Standards, the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, the Common Core, Arizona’s kindergarten standards and the CASEL framework. This page lists every code Wren addresses and the skills that teach toward it, 307 codes in all. Search for a code or a skill, show one framework at a time, or print the page for a portfolio or a school.

Wren did this matching itself. The organizations that publish these standards have not reviewed or endorsed Wren. A code on this page means Wren teaches toward that standard; it does not mean a child has met it.

Each row is one standard code. Under it are the Wren skills that practice it, with the learning area, the age a child can start it and the K, pre or ext mark. A code counts once however many skills practice it; a skill counts once per framework however many of that framework’s codes it carries. The counts come from the same curriculum file the app runs on (version 2026-10-02.1).

What “K”, “pre” and “ext” mean

Skills marked K are the skills children usually have when they start kindergarten; only they count toward the readiness number in the parent app (158 of the 225 skills). Skills marked pre are earlier stepping stones (47), and skills marked ext go beyond kindergarten entry (20). The readiness number is Wren’s own estimate from practice inside Wren. It is not a standardized test, and Wren has not yet checked it against an outside measure.

Arizona Early Learning Standards (4th edition)

134 codes · 204 skills

Published by the Arizona Department of Education for children three to five years of age. Eight standards (Social Emotional Development; Approaches to Learning; Language and Literacy; Mathematics; Science; Social Studies; Physical Development, Health and Safety; Fine Arts), each organized as strands, concepts and lettered indicators. Wren writes a code as the standard’s abbreviation, then the strand, the concept and the indicator letter (for example LL.1.1.c).

Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF)

47 codes · 202 skills

Published by the Office of Head Start for ages birth to five, in five central domains. Wren cites the preschool goals, which the framework numbers by sub-domain: P-LC for language and communication, P-LIT for literacy, P-MATH for mathematics, P-SCI for scientific reasoning, P-SE for social and emotional development, P-ATL for approaches to learning and P-PMP for perceptual, motor and physical development (for example Goal P-LC 2, “Child understands and responds to increasingly complex communication and language from others”).

Common Core State Standards (kindergarten)

53 codes · 134 skills

The Common Core State Standards Initiative’s standards for English language arts and mathematics. Wren cites the kindergarten standards: mathematics codes start with K (for example K.CC.A.1, Counting and Cardinality) and English language arts codes carry the K in the middle (for example RF.K.1.a, Reading: Foundational Skills).
